    1 September 1945. With the war now ended, U.S. Army participation in Philippine civil administration ends, and press and mail censorship in the country is lifted. Under the leadership of President Sergio Osmeña, the Philippine Commonwealth government takes over all civil functions in the country. However, full independence from the United States has still to be finalized.
